To succeed in this role, you should know how to examine new data system requirements and implement migration models. The ideal candidate will also have proven experience in data analysis and management, with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Location: This is a remote working opportunity. This individual is expected to have a proven track record of working remotely with minimal direction. Office hours are M-F 8am-5pm ET. Responsibilities Evaluate current data architecture, plan future databases, and design and implement effective future database architecture/solutions and models to store, manage and retrieve data to be used by VA enterprise users. Examine and identify database structural necessities by evaluating client operations, applications, and programming. Analyze the priority/goal/needs of customer and design the to-be architecture to be scalable and secure. Adherence to federal government data policy retention schedules/standards. Creation of an enterprise data management strategy in tandem and in alignment with the business strategy. Defines infrastructure for design and integration of internet computing systems by analyzing information requirements, studying business operations and user-interface requirements, and directing development of database architecture. Ability to articulate how long-term business needs are met by complex database strategy and complex database architecture in layman terms to fellow stakeholders. Assess database implementation procedures to ensure they comply with internal and external regulations. Prepare accurate database design and architecture reports for management and executive teams. Oversee the migration of data from legacy systems to new solutions. Monitor the system performance by performing regular tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new features. Recommend solutions to improve new and existing database systems. Offer support by responding to system problems in a timely manner. Identifying installation solutions for new databases Determining the requirements for a new database Publishing and/or presenting design reports Identifying areas for improvement in current systems Coordinating with other team members to reach project milestones and deadlines Auditing database regularly to maintain quality Creating systems to keep data secure Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business or related scientific /technical discipline plus 15 years experience. 10 years additional experience may be substituted for education. Required Skills and Experience Legal authorization to work in the U.S. Able to pass background investigation VA/Federal Agency Experience preferred Adhere to VA Architecture Framework (VAAF) policies and guidelines. Experience with: Java applications, IBM Cognos Applications and Dashboards, MS SQL Server DB, MS Access, sFTP, VistA
