Job Summary: The Associate Remote Sensing Analyst plays a vital role in assisting with GIS and remote sensing-based data capture and analysis projects. With experience and demonstrated skill in software tools and scripting languages, the Associate Analyst supports various tasks such as topographic analysis, image processing, database management, cartography, and field data collection. This role contributes to database population, report preparation, and data integration activities. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Location: Vallejo, CA Job Classification: Full time Duties/Responsibilities: Assist with GIS and remote sensing-based data capture and analysis projects. Utilize software tools such as ArcGIS, Imagine, GRASS, GDAL, eCognition, ENVI/IDL, Geomatica, R, MATLAB, and other programs for topographic analysis, image processing, and database management. Perform digital image pre-processing tasks including geo-registration, orthorectification, and atmospheric/radiometric correction. Conduct image analysis, classification, and population of databases. Aid in database management and report preparation for various customers. Review and integrate ancillary GIS data from external sources. Correlate reference field data to GIS layers for model development and accuracy assessment. Test new remote sensing data and software for project applicability. Provide requested data to end-users via a database or hardcopy products. Perform spatial and tabular queries using GIS and remote sensing software. Import and export spatial and tabular data with GIS and remote sensing software. Manipulate and edit data in GIS and remote sensing mapping software. Assist in basic scripting using languages like Python, EML, VB.Net, C/C++, C#, Java, or EASI to automate tasks. Support field data integration, accuracy assessment, and hardware/software maintenance. Conduct fieldwork, including collecting terrestrial LiDAR samples within assigned geographic locations. Required Skills/Abilities: Proficiency in software tools such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Imagine, GRASS, GDAL, eCognition, ENVI/IDL, Geomatica, R, MATLAB, and scientific scripting languages. Basic scripting skills using Python, EML, VB.Net, C/C++, C#, Java, or EASI to automate tasks. Knowledge of field data integration, accuracy assessment, and hardware/software maintenance. Ability to perform spatial and tabular queries, import/export data, and manipulate/edit data in GIS and remote sensing software. Ability to conduct fieldwork and collect terrestrial LiDAR samples. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Education and Experience: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Forestry, Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Soils, Geology, Hydrology, Geography, or Earth Science. Preferred: Master’s degree in GIS or Remote Sensing preferred. One (1) year of extensive experience in a field requiring the use of GIS and remote sensing tools. Experience in topographic analysis, image processing, database management, and cartography. Familiarity with vegetation classification systems such as CALVEG, California Wildlife Habitat Relationships, Manual of California Vegetation, and the National Vegetation Classification. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Emergency Response: Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee’s official Position Description (PD). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
